Mark Charlebois and Thomas Sands of the Bad Taste bike gang made this “bike-lock bike” using a ring-and-post found in a pile of garbage on Dundas Street West in Toronto. Mark used an angle grinder and an arc welder to create the bike. “You can do a lot with an angle grinder and an arc welder,” he says. “The bike-lock bike actually rides really well and isn’t as heavy as most people would think it is, weighing in at about 45 lbs.”

Judith Ann Clancy made these literally stunning outfits using safety vests donated by Redpath. Judith is a freelance fashion designer and you can read all about the making of these safe-to-be-seen-in fabulous frocks at dandyhorsemagazine.com now.

dandyhorse magazine would like the city and construction companies to pay for and replace any bike parking that they remove to make way for construction crews and new building projects.

We’ll be giving out safety vests at our launch party, where you could also win a Linus bike courtesy of Curbside. Details coming soon.

Here’s the spread (below) from inside issue 10 – our new ‘safety’ issue – as well as some more photos from our shoot with Mike Ford. Hand-drawn header by dandy designer and illustrator Clayton (CTON) Hanmer.

This photo below was the one we almost used in the magazine, but the design and editorial team (and Mike Ford) all agreed that the photo of Patti and Sherine being silly was the best! (It’s really hard to chose just one, when you are working with a great photographer.) The one on our homepage was a close third choice.

….

We’ll also be launching a dandy display featuring the bike-lock bike and items from inside our new safety issue of dandyhorse at the Toronto Reference Library on July 13 – details to be announced here soon. We’ll be giving out safety vests and magazines to the first 50 people at the display.
